Since the time when women are given equal rights on education, many women became interested in conquering the professional fields that are used to be dominated by men such as being a doctor, a lawyer, and an engineer. Even though mechanical engineers are professionals who specialize in the creation of engines, tools, equipment, machines and other types of mechanical devices and systems like a material handling system; a field that usually intimidates women, there are still a few who are fascinated by the idea of making something that can make life a little easier.
As the world of engineering is still a foreign world to women, female aspiring mechanical engineers should exert more effort than those of their male colleagues. Completing a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering can be quite a great challenge to women as this field requires the ability to use advanced mathematical techniques, an ability more natural in men than women, in designing and developing projects. Being a woman doesn’t mean being weak in arithmetic, though. There are women who excel in this field as well.
Being employed as a mechanical engineer can become a challenge for women as well, even with the necessary certifications and licenses, as many employers tend to feel less confident in hiring female mechanical engineers.
